History:
Through the efforts of members of the community, the Monkton Community Dog Park was established and opened on November 21, 2020. Together the members of the dog park committee chose a roughly one acre parcel of land in Morse Park. The Monkton Recreation Committee and the Monkton Select Board, with the support of the VT Housing and Conservation Board, which holds the easement on Morse Park, agreed to our use of this site. With the help of donations from local citizens and businesses, the materials were purchased and the fencing installed. The Vermont Department of Historic Preservation ensured that construction would have minimal to no impact on Colonial and prehistoric artifacts.
The park:
The dog park is split into two main areas: A large area with plenty of space for larger or more energetic dogs. And a smaller area for small dogs or those that want to have a good sniff but with less doggy chaos. Poop bags are provided, though bringing your own is always appreciated, and a waste bin is available. Due to a few factors, including freezing temps in the winter, water is not provided and bringing your own, especially in summer, is encouraged.
How to help:
1) First and foremost, while enjoying the park, pick up the poop! Please police your own dog’s poop and if you notice any more, pitch in and pick that up as well.
2) Second, monetary donations can be made via PayPal and GoFundMe. If you prefer donating by check you can do that too! Please make your check payable to Monkton Community Dog Park and mail it to:
Monkton Town Hall
92 Monkton Ridge
North Ferrisburgh, VT 05473.
3) And finally, we’re always on the look-out for volunteers to help with park upkeep and administration. Please email dogpark@monktonvt.com if you’d like to volunteer.
