Monday: 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM
                   Alternating weeks for payroll: 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM

Tuesday: 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM
                     3rd Tuesday of the month for RML Trustees Meeting: 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM

Wednesday: 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM (Town Hall is closed on this day)

Thursday: 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM
2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month for Selectboard Meeting:
                       8:30 AM – 11:00 AM
                       4:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Friday: 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM

Additional weekly hours are worked remotely or from the Town Hall outside of these regularly scheduled times. Please email or call to schedule in-person appointments.

General Duties & Responsibilities:

The positions of Town Treasurer and Delinquent Tax Collector are both appointed by the Selectboard. General duties and responsibilities include:

Town Treasurer

  • Keeping and maintaining all of the Town’s funds and accounts
  • Investing money (with the approval of the legislative body)
  • Keeping a record of the taxes voted
  • Paying orders drawn
  • Providing human resources support
  • Managing employee benefits and payroll
  • Working closely with Town Auditors and Delinquent Tax Collector
  • Providing support to the Town Clerk, Town Administrator and Selectboard

Delinquent Tax Collector

  • Ensuring that property taxes owed to the town are paid by all taxpayers in accordance with Vermont state statutes
  • Notifying taxpayers when their taxes are overdue
  • Making arrangements for late payments and/or taking formal collection actions, including conducting tax sales of the property when necessary
  • Keeping accurate records, delivering collected funds to the Town Treasurer, and reports to the Town Auditors

Property Taxes:

Monkton’s tax year runs January 1 – December 31. Only one tax bill is mailed in early September to the owner of record as of April 1. Property tax payments are due in full on or before the 15th of November in order to avoid delinquent penalty and interest.
