Monkton Maples 4H
Since 2003, the Monkton Maples 4H Community Service Group has been proud to run the Monkton Town Recycling Center. The recycling center is open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Recyclable materials may be “co-mingled” in the large metal containers, with separate dumpsters available for corrugated cardboard.
Hazardous materials and items such as old computers and appliances should be taken directly to the Addison County Solid Waste Management District Transfer Station in Middlebury. The ACSWMD will recycle or dispose of these items for a small fee. Visit www.addisoncountyrecycles.org for transfer station hours and other information.
Our 4H group is happy to accept your redeemable bottles and cans at the recycling center. You can also consider designating the Monkton Maples as your recipient at Bristol Redemption. The club uses the funds from the returns to purchase supplies. Any excess funds are donated to local charities.
The Monkton Maples 4H group consists of youth and parent volunteers who are committed to helping our community. 4Hers volunteer their time at the recycling center as well as in many other ways during the year. A few of these other activities include:
- Coordinate Green Up Day in Monkton (the first Saturday in May)
- Provide lunch for Monkton’s Town Meeting Day (first Tuesday in March)
- Bake breads for Holiday Gift Baskets/Caroling distribution to elderly and shut-ins
- Volunteer at the Addison County Fair at the 4H Food Booth and Youth Hall
- Volunteer at the Bristol Food Shelf
We are always looking to grow our membership! Any students interested in joining the Monkton Maples may call me at 453-5847.
Casella Waste Management is available at 388-2915 to answer any questions regarding what materials are accepted for recycling.
We thank you for your continued support!
