Urgent need for fill Lister position

The Town of Monkton has an urgent need for Listers.   Currently there is only one Lister which means that no official Town Lister business can take place.  This is a paid part-time position for approximately 5-10 hours per week depending on workload.  This is an opportunity to fill an important role in town government and acquire skills that include tax mapping, processing zoning permits, deed references, data entry and generating the Grand List (which forms the basis of our property taxes).  Training will be provided by the current Listers with assistance from the New England Municipal Resource Center (NEMRC).  Being a Lister is a great chance to be a vital part of Town government while earning extra income and adding to your resume.

Interested candidates should send a letter of interest to the Selectboard at Selectboard@monktonvt.com, speak to any member of the Selectboard or Listers, or call 802-452-3800.

Town of Monkton Energy Scorecard

In 2020 the Town of Monkton passed a new Town Plan that included an Enhanced Energy Plan.  This Energy Plan is an extension of the Vermont Comprehensive Energy Plan that seeks to  “enhance the vitality of the state and local economy by reducing money spent on fuels pumped, mined or generated elsewhere, improve our health through reduced
emissions, alternative transportation and improve the quality of our local and global environment through reduced greenhouse gas emissions. This robust energy plan is used as a tool to advance the economic and environmental well‐being of Monkton, thereby improving the quality of life for its residents. Furthermore, these energy goals will reduce Monkton’s vulnerability to energy‐related economic pressures and, in the long‐term,
climate change‐related natural disasters, and promote long‐term community resiliency in a variety of contexts.”

So how are we doing?  The Addison County Regional Planning Commission has developed the following energy scorecard for Monkton:
