Notice of Public Hearing on Proposed Amendments to the UPD

Town of Monkton Notice of Public Hearing

On the Proposed Amendments to the Unified Planning Document

The Monkton Selectboard will hold a public Hearing at 6:45  PM, Tuesday January 24, 2023 at Monkton Town Offices (92 Monkton Ridge), to take public testimony on the proposed Amendments to the Unified Planning Document.

The Selectboard will discuss and vote on any proposed changes after this Public Hearing.

 Statement of Purpose

Monkton’s Unified Planning Document exists to provide process and procedure to guide orderly development within the town. It is comprised of two parts, Section I that contains the town’s Zoning Regulations and Section II that addresses the Subdivision Regulations. All development regulations take their guidance from the Town Plan, but unlike the Town Plan do not expire. Once adopted these regulations remain in effect until amended by the voters. The amendments proposed here, are intended to streamline the Zoning and Subdivision process and to make the process more open to the community.

All of the proposed amendments support the goals of the Town Plan and provide clarity and greater community input in the development process. They are compatible with proposed future land uses and densities of the municipal plan and planned community facilities.  Full warning follows: Continue reading

2023 Town of Monkton Elected Positions

2023 Town of Monkton Elected Positions

If you are interested in running for an elected office in the town of Monkton, a list of open or expiring terms is shown below.

To have your name appear on the ballot you must submit a petition with the signatures of at least 1% of the registered voters in Monkton (approximately 17, but it’s good to be on the safe side and get more in case some signatures end up being deemed ineligible). Forms for petitions are available from the Town Clerk. Petitions should be returned to the Town Clerk or the drop box at the Town Hall.

The deadline for submitting a petition is Monday, January 30th at 5PM

You may leave petitions at the town hall so people can stop in and sign, or take it with you to gather signatures on your own. There are already a number of petitions set out for signatures on the table at the Town Hall.

Village Center Designation for Monkton Ridge

The Town of Monkton has applied for and received Village Center designation for Monkton Ridge from the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD). The village district consists of Monkton Ridge Road and States Prison Hollow Road down to the Fire Station and is shown in this map.  Village center designation supports the revitalization of Vermont’s small villages and includes benefits to both the Town and homeowners.  For the Town this includes technical assistance and priority consideration for State grants such as VTrans Bike/Ped and Municipal Planning Grants.  For homeowners in the district, benefits include historic tax credits for interior and exterior improvements, facade work and code improvement.  More information is available from the ACCD benefits flyer or by accessing the ACCD village centers web page
