Monkton Dog Licenses

There were over 341 dogs registered in Monkton in 2013. And as of today we have not registered that many dogs this year.  If you have a dog and live in Monkton, you MUST register the animal.  It’s the law.  If you and/or your dog has moved out of Monkton, or if your dog has passed away, please call or visit Monkton Town Hall to let us know.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Fees after April 1, 2014

Neutered Dogs      $10.00

Not Neutered Dogs          $13.00

Results of the Doyle Poll

The following are the results from the Doyle Poll that was taken on town meeting day.

• Prohibit drivers from using cell phones: Yes 74 percent; no 19 percent; unsure 7 percent.

• Legalize marijuana: Yes 44 percent; no 44 percent; unsure 12 percent.

• Should wind turbines be built on ridge lines: Yes 47 percent; no 33 percent; unsure 10 percent.

• Increase minimum wage: Yes 71 percent; no 20 percent; unsure 9 percent.

• Concerned about use of opiates: Yes 89 percent; no 5 percent; unsure 6 percent.

• Reduce prison population through alternatives for non-violent offenders: Yes 72 percent; no 16 percent; unsure 12 percent.

• Should genetically modified food be labeled: Yes 76 percent; no 15 percent; unsure 9 percent.

• Is Vermont affordable: Yes 26 percent; no 59 percent, unsure 15 percent.

• Is statewide cell and broadband service important: Yes 87 percent; no 5 percent; unsure 8 percent.

• Is natural gas an important part of Vermont’s economy: Yes 54 percent, no 21 percent; unsure 25 percent.

Monkton Volunteer Fire Department Annual Spring Breakfast

The MVFD is holding its annual Spring Breakfast on Sunday April 6th from 8 to 11 a.m. at the fire station.  The menu will consist of egg casserole, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, plain and blueberry pancakes with pure maple syrup, juices, milk, coffee, tea, doughnuts and cookies.   Come to enjoy good food and good conversation with family, friends and neighbors.   For more information, contact Charlie Huizenga Sr. at 877-2888.

Save Our Salamanders Monkton

SOS – We Need Your Help to Save our Salamanders and Wildlife Habitat

Charlotte, VT – The Town of Monkton, Lewis Creek Association and other partners are excited to announce the launch of this spring one-time  social media campaign on Indiegogo to raise $45,000  by the end of April for the installation of two Wildlife Crossing Structures in Monkton, Vermont.   Other team partners include the Vermont Agency of Transportation, Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, University of Vermont’s Gund Institute of Ecological Economics, Middlebury Area Land Trust, Trans Wild Alliance, Defenders of Wildlife, The Vermont Reptile and Amphibian Atlas and Peregrine Productions.
