MCS Board of Directors Resolution

The Monkton Central School Board of Directors unanimously passed the following resolution at their meeting on June 27, 2017.

Resolution: The Monkton Central School Board of Directors respectfully urges Congress to continue its support for the vital resources in the current Federal Education budget and not to approve health care and children’s food program cuts in the Trump Administration’s proposed budget.

Whereas the proposed decrease to the Federal Education budget (-13.5%) and the Trump Administration budget and health care proposals as a whole eliminate or significantly reduce funding for a wide range of programs that benefit Monkton Central School students and families:

-School lunch programs and food assistance programs.

-After school programs, which have been shown to increase academic performance, improve classroom behavior, encourage physical activity and provide safe and constructive childcare options for working families.

-Medicaid, which provides children’s health care insurance.

-The new federal health care proposal (AHCA) is estimated to increase the number of uninsured Vermonters by 65,000 by 2026. Uninsured or underinsured students and adults may lack the resources to access necessary physical and mental health supports, impacting academic outcomes, student attendance and overall well being.

2017 Pond Brook Ecological Report and Species Guide

Pond Brook Ecological Inventory

During the summer of 2016, UVM biology graduate student Lyra Brennan conducted a focused study of the Pond Brook Watershed.  An Ecological Inventory and Assessment of the Pond Brook Region in Monkton, Vermont is a rich source of information including detailed descriptions of plants, animals, geology, and hydrology of the watershed.

Pond Brook Key Species Guide

During the summer of 2016 UVM biology graduate student Lyra Brennan conducted a focused study of the natural history aspects of the Pond Brook Watershed. One result of her work was the production of a “Key Species Guide” complete with photographs and explanatory text that addresses key plant species that call the Pond Brook Watershed home. The Agricultural and Natural Areas Committee (ANAC) helped to sponsor Lyra’s work and the committee plans to make hard copies of the guide available in the Town Library

Reappraisal Frequently Asked Questions

Reappraisal FAQ

The following are examples of frequently asked questions (FAQ) that we typically answer for property owners after the completion of a reappraisal.

1). My assessment changed substantially. Does that mean my taxes will increase/decrease by the same amount?

No. Even if your assessment doubled that does not mean your taxes would double.
Remember the total grand list has changed as well. The budget was passed at town meeting, and the amount of taxes to be raised is set. The tax rate will adjust as a result of the reappraisal. The education tax rate is set by the State sometime in July. Your individual taxes may be adjusted depending on your income level if you are eligible for a Homestead deduction. Continue reading
