The Agricultural and Natural Areas Committee is looking to fill a vacancy in the committee.  The Monkton Agricultural and Natural Areas Committee (ANAC) is dedicated to protecting the farmland, woodland, natural and recreational areas, and other open spaces that help give Monkton its distinctive rural character and quality of life.  The Committee reviews applications and makes recommendations to Monkton’s Selectboard who administers the Agricultural and Natural Areas Fund that is dedicated to the perpetual protection of agriculture and natural resources important to Monkton and in support of the Town Plan.  Full posting below the fold.

Agricultural and Natural Areas Committee (ANAC)

Position Description

 Purpose: The Monkton Agricultural and Natural Areas Committee (ANAC) is dedicated to protecting the farmland, woodland, natural and recreational areas, and other open spaces that help give Monkton its distinctive rural character and quality of life.  The Committee reviews applications and makes recommendations to Monkton’s Selectboard who administers the Agricultural and Natural Areas Fund that is dedicated to the perpetual protection of agriculture and natural resources important to Monkton and in support of the Town Plan.

Position Title: ANAC Member

Role: ANAC members serve in (unpaid) positions appointed by the Selectboard to fulfill the goals and objectives of the ANAC mission.

Position Requirements:

  • Be a Monkton resident.
  • Possess an understanding or willingness to learn about land use planning.
  • Evaluate applications and conduct site visits.
  • Attend monthly meetings and be accessible by email. (Depending on the project load ANAC may hold a second meeting in a month.)
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive project information until the appropriate time.
  • Communicate with Monkton property owners about the committee’s work.
  • Perform outreach to the community to the kinds of projects for which funding is available.

Time Commitment:   ANAC members are expected to commit to a three year term.  Between the meetings and follow-up research and actions, members spend 2-8 hours/month depending on the number of projects under consideration.
